UCR System in Egypt: The Complete Exporter's Guide
In Egypt, UCR stands for Unique Consignment Reference, a mandatory 20-digit tracking number assigned to all export shipments through the Nafeza Platform. Secure your UCR before booking with carriers.
The UCR System for Egyptian Exporters
Launched by the Egyptian Customs Authority under the "Developed Export" system, the UCR is the export equivalent of the import ACID system. Its goal is to create a single, unified reference number for a shipment across all involved authorities to reduce release times and operating costs.
How It Works
- Mandatory Status: The UCR number is strictly mandatory for all export shipments from Egyptian seaports and airports without exception.
- How to Obtain It: Exporters or their officially authorized customs brokers must log onto the Nafeza Single Window Platform and submit a "Request for Export" along with shipment and invoice details.
- Booking: You must provide the approved UCR and the Exporter Tax ID to your shipping line or freight forwarder at the time of booking. Carriers validate these details directly through Nafeza before accepting the booking or allowing the cargo to be loaded.
Key Booking Constraints & Deadlines
Global carriers such as Maersk, MSC, and CMA CGM enforce strict automated compliance audits linked to the Egyptian Customs Nafeza platform:
- No Retroactive Edits: Once booking details are verified and locked via Nafeza, modifying shipper identities or cargo descriptions is forbidden.
- Shipper Matching: The Shipper's corporate name on the Bill of Lading must correspond verbatim to the export company registered inside the Nafeza portal.
- Automatic Cancellations: Shipments with faulty, expired, or synthetic UCR numbers are purged automatically from vessel manifests, requiring new booking requests subject to current freight space availability.
